# The Tesseract experience — 20-second tour

The Projects thumbnail is a rotating globe preview using NASA Earth imagery and selected event photographs from the app. Its [image credits and source locations](globe/credits.md) are listed separately. It previews historical events, not a live news feed.

Recorded September 5, 2026 from the local Geotemporal Transurfing release candidate. The MP4 is 1280 × 720, 30 fps, 20 seconds, silent. A smaller looping GIF is supplied for previews; use the MP4 for video uploads.

| Time | Demonstration |
|---|---|
| 0–2 s | Approach Florida and open Discovery’s launch. |
| 2–5.5 s | Play the actual archival excerpt forward. |
| 5.5–6.2 s | Pause the decoded footage. |
| 6.2–7.5 s | Reverse the footage at 1×. |
| 7.5–9.2 s | Select 60× reverse, reach the excerpt’s beginning, then rewind the calendar. |
| 9.2–12 s | Edited cut to the Peru event; scroll to its “Meanwhile, elsewhere” links. |
| 12–16 s | Click the actual link and fly to the Saffron Revolution in Myanmar. |
| 16–18.8 s | Resume forward calendar time while pulling back and orbiting. |
| 18.8–20 s | Hold the view and show the demo URL. |

The recording uses the application’s event records, rendered globe, transport controls, and actual “Meanwhile” link. A controlled recording clock advances the application at 30 frames per second and waits for the requested media frame to decode; wall-clock encoding time does not change playback speed. Camera moves are scripted for capture. Captions and a visible cursor are added. The cut at 9.2 seconds is an edit between examples, not a claim of uninterrupted navigation from 2011 to the Peru event.

The clip phase measures recording seconds and holds the recording day. The calendar phase measures historical time; the application displays its current days-per-second rate. The 60× selector multiplies the current phase’s base rate. The tour does not assign invented historical timestamps to footage frames. Dates, direction, and the transition back to history are visible.

**Featured archival media**

| Material | Attribution and source | Date and use |
|---|---|---|
| Discovery launch footage | NASA; [STS-133 launch video](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:STS-133_launch_video.ogv); public domain as identified by the source. | Recorded February 24, 2011. The existing app excerpt is resized and cropped into the panel and globe card, paused, and deliberately played backward to demonstrate the controls. No synthetic historical frames. |
| Peru earthquake photograph | Martin St-Amant (S23678); [source photograph](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:40_-_Tremblement_de_terre_-_Ao%C3%BBt_2007.JPG); [CC BY-SA 3.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/). | Taken August 21, 2007, six days after the earthquake. Resized and cropped by the interface; illustrates the aftermath. It is not live footage of August 15. |
| Myanmar protest photograph | racoles; [2007 Myanmar protests 7](https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:2007_Myanmar_protests_7.jpg); [CC BY 2.0](https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0/). | Taken September 24, 2007 during the later protest phase. Resized and cropped by the interface. The event record begins August 15; the photograph does not depict that day. |

“Meanwhile” follows the dates of event records. It does not assert that their illustrative photographs were taken simultaneously. Period view shows events across its labeled five-year window; background cards are not all simultaneous events. This is an interface demonstration with archival material, not a live satellite or news feed.

Background photographs and recordings retain the attribution and licenses in the included [photo ledger](credits/event-photo-sources.md), [recording ledger](credits/event-media-sources.md), and [moving-media ledger](credits/moving-media-sources.md). These list the reviewed media library, including entries not visible in this tour. Keep the source credits with distributed copies of the media.

Earth: NASA Blue Marble imagery stored with the app. Borders: Natural Earth. Sky: modeled from the bundled star catalog and astronomical calculations, not a live photograph. Catalog attribution and source terms are in the app’s credits. Interface and screen-recording arrangement: Amish Regmi. Third-party media retain their own licenses; the unresolved code-license decision does not change them.
